For the children in adult bodies

Who had to turn to themselves to self-soothe

Who grew without an adult giving

The validation necessary for you to know

you are enough 

criticisms and comparisons were abundant,

compliments scarce

who you were, clearly not enough

and you’ve held on to it

for years, turned into decades

a mantra through your head 

“I am not enough”

except you are and there is

Life is not a competition w/anyone
